About Us
Our Story
In Yoruba, Ayo means joy and Ahyoh is joy. The kind that runs through generations, stitched into stories, and carried across continents. That is the spirit of Ahyoh, a progressive African heritage fashion brand born from a simple truth: we didn’t see ourselves in the clothes the world made, so we created our own.
We were raised in colours that spoke before we did; wax prints that portrayed our mothers’ femininity, isi-agwus and agbadas that told our fathers’ pride, matching headwraps worn like crowns by aunties whose joy and youthfulness lit up every gathering.
However, when we moved to the UK, something was missing; the fabrics that lifted our spirits were locked away for most of the year. When the cold months came, the clothes available were dull, grey, and heavy, which dimmed not just our style, but our mood and sense of self. The weather was gloomy, and so were our wardrobes.
Who we are
At Ahyoh, we design with JHUICE — Joy, Heritage, Unity, Identity, Creativity, and Excellence.
Each piece carries more than style; it carries meaning.
We create with joy, honouring our heritage, and celebrating unity across cultures and generations.
We design with identity at heart, where creativity meets tradition, and every stitch reflects excellence — because our culture deserves nothing less.
Creative Director/Founder
Izu Godfrey was born Igbo, grew up among Hausas, and found love with a Yoruba woman. These three major cultures from Nigeria shaped his view of identity and style. His story mirrors the blend that defines Ahyoh, a joyful harmony of cultures and proof that unity can be as vibrant as difference.
“Every fabric I touch reminds me of home, the laughter, the colours, the rhythm. Ahyoh isn’t just fashion to me; it’s a bridge between worlds. It’s proof that we can fit in anywhere and still stay true to where we began.”
